about the Engineering Society

Southampton University Engineering Society (SUES) is a student society representing the students of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Southampton.

SUES arranges regular social events from the ubiquitous student pub crawls through to an annual ball (held in the autumn term) with a wide variety of other events, highlights of recent years included:

  • Paint Balling
  • Indoor Go-karting
  • Clubbing at the Opera House, Bournemouth
  • Jongleurs Comedy Club
  • The Annual Engineers and Nurses Ball

In addition to the social events the society also runs sports teams in a variety of intramural leagues, runs a second hand bookshop for all those unwanted textbooks and works with the industry to help out with career advice, trips and placements.

Why join the engineering society?

  • We are one of the biggest societies on campus with over 700 members since its re-birth in 2000.
  • We are more than just any old society; we are directly supported by the Faculty of Engineering Sciences and Mathematics.
  • This means we can run events on a scale the other societies can only dream of.
  • The annual Engineers and Nurses ball held in December is a no expenses spared event for 500 students This year, it was organised by SUES with the help of NAMSOC and ESSS and everyone had an awesome time.
  • Over the year we run loads of events; members get a discount usually to less than cost price!
  • We run a members-only bookshop so you can get your course texts at greatly reduced prices compared to the high streets.
  • We have ongoing industrial links with BAE Systems, IBM, Nortel Networks and Qinetiq.
  • Career guides available from us courtesy of Inside Careers and Target.
  • Various projects such as SURT or Student workshop to get involved in or start your own!
  • Only society to offer clothing with the name of your engineering/engineering science course on.

Annual membership costs £6
